Hearts 4 Arch
Mobile monitors for heart kids
In memory of my little brother, Archie
My name is Mimi & together with my parents we’ve started the Hearts 4 Arch not for profit, aiming to provide the cardiac patients across Sydney Children's Hospitals Network with AliveCor’s mobile ECG devices called KardiaMobile. This device will provide the amazing doctors with personal, current and accurate information about their patients to assist them to provide care for children with congenital heart defects. I hope that having this device will give the doctors, the children and their families knowledge that allows everyone to be confident in the repaired heart’s health.
My Brother, Archie
Archie was born with a heart defect known as double outlet right ventricle as well as a hole in his heart (VSD). Our little man pushed through 3 major heart surgeries when he was born, this was when he decided to continue to live the amazing life that was given to him. Archie coming into this world was the best thing that ever happened to me. He taught me everything I know as we grew up together side by side.
Arch had no reason not to feel confident in his heart’s ability however very rarely he would comment that his heart felt ‘weird’. Because he had annual check ups with his cardiologist which showed his heart was healthy and functioning well, there was no reason for concern. Having the KardiaMobile device would have meant when Archie said his heart felt ‘weird’ we could monitor his heart rate, the information would be sent directly to his cardiologist and if there was any reason for concern we could act on it giving everyone just a little more confidence that his amazing reconfigured heart was ok.
I miss Archie like crazy but I know that he is so proud of his family and mates while we all go through this loss together. Giving anything to this beautiful cause would mean so much to me along with Arch and everyone who was affected by his loss.
Thank you, Mimi Perkin
